Dear reader I just finished reading “The Queen Of All Crows” book number one in the “Map Of Unknown Things” series by Rod Duncan. I bought this book in the Nook store on my tablet because I love the first trilogy set in this same world. My personal review of the book is as follows:
I want to start this review off by saying that I follow/have talked with the author on Twitter and I think that he is a cool guy; This review is ONLY my own personal experience/feelings about the book.
I personally had a hard time getting into the storyline/figuring what was going on for the first few chapters until(in my personal opinion) the first big plot point happens and you find out that there are time jumps between past and present.
I personally really wish that I as the reader could have had more of a lead up to the first big plot point, I feel like should have had a bit more gravity behind it especially given the character involved and their impact on/importance to the main character which is the same main character that the first trilogy follows. For me personally by the time that I was starting to understand what happened the main character was already trying to uncover the whys of the situation.
I understand why ships/the ship was used for most of the setting the storyline as a whole however for me personally between the time jumps and trying to figure out what ship the main character was on/who was who within it the storyline lost me again.
Once the ship part was done and the next major plot point happened I felt like it was trying to cram two storylines together. Which in my personal opinion made the main storyline get lost until around page 150 when a plot twist happens that reveals how the pirates are connected with the main storyline I still feel like the pirates would’ve been better as a novella(like a pirate scene or two, then a novella telling you about the rest the main character’s time with the pirates).
The pirate plotline reminded me personally of a female version of “Pirates of the Caribbean”. If you like that kind of theme it’s pretty much takes over as the main focus from about page 150 till the end of the book(You as a reader do get to find out the whys from the start of storyline).
Overall I personally am excited to see where the main character goes from here, I have to give a lot of credit to the author, in my personal opinion this story was one hell of a way of moving a character from point A to point B.
Overall I personally rate this book a 7 and half out of 10. Happy reading dear reader 😊. Please like and share this review if you like it doing so helps me to get approved by publishers and authors for future books and helps others to find my reviews 💜.
