He is a friend of a family friend, I am going to be honest he seems like he is the type of guy I normally run from however he says he needs friends to help him stay sober and I feel a “pull” to help him.

I doubt that it’s a love thing since he is about 10+ years older than me, You never know if he has a friend that could end up being my guy.
