Dear reader my grandmother told me that and I have stuck to it as best as I have been able to.

She told me it once because I wanted to make a girl at school stop bugging me.

She pretty much said this(some paraphrasing):

“You can send a person to jail and for awhile they may be out of your way but you have to always remember that more than likely they will spend that time thinking of how to get you back and more than likely they will get out at some point.

You have to either have enough leverage to keep them out of your way permanently or you have to make it so their own actions put them there not you, so they have no one to blame but themselves. ”

I have used this advice with my ex I have done zero to him that he can blame me for and I have leverage to use should he come after me.

He knows this and his ex does too, it drives her nuts.

The moral of this story dear reader is I don’t pick fights unless I know I can win them.

I kept thinking of this while watching “House of Cards” which is why I wrote this.
