Dear reader I am not a member of the US military, however my dad was in Nam(drafted US Army), My brother Shaun served in the Army and I was with my ex hubby during most of his time in the Marines. I have a soft spot for the US military so I am going to vent about the US soldier who was just released from Afghanistan.
We never leave a man or woman in uniform behind period.
IF he was a deserter or not doesn’t matter in regards to if he should be rescued or not(You can disagree on the methods used all you like) He deserves to have his right to innocent until proven guilty in a court on US soil.
To my knowledge no where have I heard it said that in the UCMJ(Uniform Code of Military Justice) the punishment for being a deserter is to die on foreign soil in the hands of the Taliban which was the only outcome if you don’t believe in getting him home at all(Like I have said before the argument around how he was released is separate from if he should have been brought home at all).
I for one dear reader am thankful that he is home and safe. My thoughts and prayers are with him, his family, unit, and friends.
