My review of episode 2 of “Cutthroat Kitchen” with Alton Brown.

Warning there will be spoilers ahead:

I am writing this review while I watch the episode on my DVR so that I can pause and add my thoughts as needed

This review is my personal thoughts of the episode I am not a professional writer or reviewer just a fan doing this for fun. Disclaimer I am biased to the show a bit due to the fact that I am already a fan of the show’s host Alton Brown:

Contestants for this episode are:

Chef Taylor, Chef Gwen, Chef “Pink”, and Chef Gianchetti

1st round dish is:

Pork Chops and Apple Sauce.

Pantry shopping side note:

Chef “Pink” forgot her Pork Chops. This should be interesting dear reader. I am excited to see how it turns out.

1st round Auction:

1st item up to bid on is:

Different types of Pork products. The winning bidder of this item gets to use the good Pork Chops in it then force the remaining not so good Pork onto his opponents.

Winning bidder of this item is:

Chef Gianchetti with a winning bid of $8,100. He gives the pre-cooked & over cooked Pork to Chef Taylor, the frozen Pork Chops to Chef Pink, and the pre-cooked pulled Pork to Chef Gwen.

2nd item to bid on is:

Sour Apple Candy. The winning bidder of this item forces 1 of their opponents to use the candy instead of real apples in their dish.

Winning bidder is:

Chef Taylor with a winning bid of $8,400 he gave them to Chef Gianchetti.

3 item to bid on is:

A roll of aluminum foil. The winning bidder of this item forces 1 of their opponents to make all of said opponents cooking utensils and cooking pots/vessels for this round out of foil.

Very, Very sneaky.

Winning bidder for this item is:

Chef “Pink” with a winning bid of $10,000 and she gives the foil to Chef Gwen.

Surprise Auction of a basket of Apples:

The winning bidder of the Apples forces 1 of their opponents to add raw apples to their dish. Not this auction is taking place during the 1st round of cooking.

Winning bidder of the basket of Apples is:

Chef Gwen with a winning bid of $1,500 she gives the Apples to Chef “Pink”.

Note the show only has one judge and the judge doesn’t see or know about all the backstabbing.

1st round elimination:

The judge told Chef Taylor that he hates the use of truffle oil but he thought the rest of dish was pretty good.

The judge told Chef Gwen that her use of “Showing her Chops” instead of an actual Pork Chop had an “Air of desperation”. Ouch dear reader that’s got to hurt. The judge also said her egg wasn’t perfectly poached, he liked her wanton pork thing(My word), however he called her Apple soup “muddy”

The judge told Chef Pink her dish is missing some texture, it’s soft, and missing seasoning.

The judge told Chef Gianchetti that he can’t taste the Apple in his dish and that his Pork Chop is really tough. To me that says something because he was the only Chef to get “Normal” Pork Chops.

The Chef that the judge eliminates is:

Chef “Pink” because of her dish’s lack of seasoning and texture.

I personally think Chef Gianchetti should have gone home for over-cooking his Pork Chops.

2nd round dish is:

Mac and Cheese.

2nd round Auction:

1st item up for auction is:

A gift basket with candy and other sweet items that the winning bidder can use to force 1 of their opponents to make desert Mac and Cheese.

Winning bidder of this item is:

Chef Gianchetti for a winning bid of $1,200 and he gives it to Chef Taylor.

2nd item up for auction is:

A basket of processed cheese products. The winning bidder of this basket uses it to force 1 of their opponents to use the items in the basket in their dish instead of the cheese they were originally going to use.

Winning bidder of the item is:

Chef Taylor with a winning bid of $5,000 He gives the basket to Chef Gianchetti.

Surprise Auction of not letting an opponent use their cook-top for the rest of the challenge:

Winning bidder of the surprise auction is:

Chef Taylor with a winning bid of $2,100. He takes away the use of Chef
Gianchetti’s cook-top for the rest of this challenge.

Chef Gianchetti is now going to try to make fresh pasta in the microwave. Good luck with that one buddy lol:

2nd round elimination:

The judge tells Chef Taylor he likes everything about his dish except the lobster.

The judge tells Chef Gwen He likes her dish except for the garnish.

The judge tells Chef Gianchetti he liked his dish but “the topping turned the dish into a salt bomb.”

The Judge liked Chef Gwen’s dish best this round.

The judge eliminates:

Chef Taylor because he put lobster in it.

Final round dish is:

Fish and Chips.

The cook time for the round is 15 minutes and the auction will take place during the cook time.

First Item up for auction is:

A whole turbo fish. The winning bidder force their remaining opponent to cook that fish instead of whatever fish they originally were going to use.

Winning bidder of this item is:

Chef Gwen for a winning bid of $3,000. Chef Gianchetti gets the fish of course.

2nd item up for auction is:

A fry basket. The winning bidder of the fry basket is the only one who can fry or saute for the rest of the challenge.

Winning bidder of the item is:

Chef Gwen for $2,000.

Last elimination:

The judge tells Chef Gianchetti that the skin on his fish isn’t crispy and his potatoes are a bit soft.

The judge tells Chef Gwen he likes her fish but not her chips.

The judge eliminates:

Chef Gianchetti.

Chef Gwen wins this episode and $18,000.

I personally think that Chef Gwen played the game well: ).
