Dear reader I just finished reading “Evernight” book #1 in the “Evernight” series by Claudia Gray. I picked up this book in the Nook store on my tablet when it was in the free section. My personal review of the book is as follows:
I wanted to like this book especially since I’ve been enjoying the “Firebird” trilogy by the same author however I’m not sure if I dislike the book because of the main character/the storyline or if I’m irritated with it because I’m too old for YA (Young Adult).
I like the setting of a school for vampires, I think that it would/could make for some good stories. I understand the appeal of trying to “save” the “bad boy” however for me personally I feel like the main character was over the top at times (in the beginning) whenever she was trying to overcome any flaws/issues she found in her love interest.
To me the main character seemed to understand why certain things need to be as they are yet she still goes against them anyway, I guess it’s the “Romeo and Juliet” concept. It still bothered me through.
I don’t understand how the main character can forgive/believe so much especially when it puts themselves and their family at risk just because of an “I love you”, I know that at 16/17 I believed a lot with an I love you however I’m pretty sure that I wouldn’t let an I love you be enough to make me want to risk not only my own life but the lives of my family and friends.
There is a line on page 211(on my ebook version, it might be different for the paperback/hardcover copy) that “Lucas” says to “Bianca” that for me personally sums up in a way how much certain things don’t really seem credible in regards to the characters choices like a “no shit” moment but they seem to forget about/dismiss it two seconds later.
I very rarely actually “facepalm” while reading a book however I actually did with this book at chapter 19, I can’t explain why without giving away whole storyline of the book away.
Overall I personally rate this book a 2 and half out of 10. Happy reading dear reader ?. I don’t normally do this in my reviews however I promised to keep all of my reviews honest: In my personal opinion http://jeanienefrost.com/books/halfway-to-the-grave/ is a better way to see the same type of storyline it does have adult themes like sex scenes so don’t read it if that bothers you.
Please like and share this review if you like it doing so helps me to get approved by Netgally and other places for future books ♡.
