Dear reader I just finished reading “Trail of Lighting” book number one in the “Sixth World” series by Rebecca Roanhorse. I picked up this book in soft-cover edition when I went to my local Barnes and Noble store with my dad because I had heard interesting things about it and I wanted to see what I thought about it. My personal review of the book is as follows:
I found the descriptions of the landscape and the nitty grittyness of the world that the story is set in made me feel like I was inside of the world with the characters. I also really enjoyed the strong female main character and how much(in my personal opinion) she knew herself and how she kept true to herself and her decisions.
At times I personally felt like I would’ve personally understood the storyline better if certain main plotlines could’ve been told over two separate books instead of worked into the first book in the series; I also feel like more emotional impact and investment into what happens would’ve been there for me personally(I’m trying to phrase it in a way that avoids spoilers) if the plotlines could’ve have been built up within the course of their own respective books(within the framework of the series of course).
My heart went out to the main character when I felt like she had to struggle/choose between her(for lack of a better way of phrasing it and I could be wrong for seeing it this way) “first love” and the first person that she’s (in my personal) really let in to her life/heart since he left.
I personally feel like if you are a fan of series like “The Walker Papers” by C.E. Murphy and the “Mercy Thompson” series by Patricia Briggs then I highly recommend giving this book a chance. Overall I personally rate this book a 6 and a half out 10. Happy reading dear reader please like and share this review if you enjoyed it doing so helps me to get approved by publishers and authors for future books and helps others to find my reviews 😊.
