Dear reader I couldn’t sleep so I finished reading “This Cruel Design” book number two in the “This Mortal Coil” series by Emily Suvada. Warning spoiler contained herein about the ending(at the very end of the review) please read at your own risk if you aren’t up to date with the series yet.

I picked up this book in hardcover edition when I went to my local Barnes and Noble with my dad. My personal review of the book is as follows:

Throughout the majority of the book until about the last few chapters I personally didn’t really fully get why plot points and twists were placed in the order in which they were, I don’t know if this will make sense however it’s the only way I can think of to explain kinda of what I mean without giving anything away; some plot twists felt(to me personally) as if they would’ve made more of an impact on me/fit better in the 3rd book of this series rather than this one however after the last twist I started to realize that they were placed in that order to free up space for the next book because holy cow judging by the ending we are going need as much space as possible to get us through the wild ride I personally think is to come in the 3rd book.

That ending with “Jun Bei” fully waking up had to be one of the most intense and shocking that I’ve read in awhile. I mean what do you do when the (in my personal opinion) “bad girl” or at the very least very morally gray wakes up ready to take over the world/try to with seemly no one around or aware enough to stop her I can’t wait to see what happens next. I also feel bad that “Cat” seems to have gotten erased in the end…. I did have some issues with her choices however I don’t see a reason to address them within this review with them essentially being meanless now(I will address them within the book review for book 3 if she’s not gone after all).
