Dear reader I just finished reading “The Bird And The Blade” by Megan Bannen. I picked up this book in hardcover edition when I went to my local Barnes and Noble with my dad. My personal review of the book is as follows: (*Spoilers for the ending of the book at the end of the review so please read at your own risk if you haven’t already finished reading the book yet.* )

I have never personally been so confused and irritated with a main character’s choices as I was with “Jin’s”. I understand how someone’s kindness can make you care for them in a situation where you normally wouldn’t and how in time that can lead to love however in my personal opinion the act of kindness that led to such a deep (in my personal opinion) “insta-love” made no sense and seemed so far fetched.

Over and over again she had time to be free or at least put herself into a better situation(even when she was mad at her love interest) and she chooses to stay with him out of love which made more sense to me personally towards the end of the story given their time together by that point).

I also didn’t personally understand how the ending made sense(I get it from a storyline prospective of needing the “romantic star-crossed” lovers “true love is sacrifice” ending”) given who “Jin” was revealed to be/her backstory. (In my personal opinion) it seemed as if she had a death wish(which might’ve been why she never tried to escape or go home no matter how many times she says that she wants to do so, because the only way she go home/be with her family is in death). Also as a side note the other girl agrees to marry the love interest right after “Jin” kills herself in an attempt to save him WTF…

(In my personal opinion) this story is tragic love story for the sake of it’s self. Overall I personally rate this book a 4 and half out of 10 because of how much I liked the characters.
