Dear reader I just finished reading “A Plague of Giants” book number one in the “Seven Kennings” series by Kevin Hearne.
I was blessed enough to win a free hardcover edition of the book from a page habit giveaway last year. My personal review of the book is as follows:
I personally enjoyed how this book(in my personal opinion) which felt like a prequel or set up novella(obviously extended over the average novella length) to the larger story arc(to be told within future books in the series told us as readers and the overall world characters (via the Bard element) why/how the world of the series went crazy without it being boring, I personally normally dislike going back and forth between multiple characters however I personally felt like it was a highlight of the book for me overall and did keep me interested for the majority of the book however towards the last half of the book I started to wish that there could’ve have been less characters to hear from so that I could figure out what was going on with “current day” stuff which I found out at the end that we wouldn’t see until the next book which seems to me personally to be the end of the set up for the overall story arc of the series.
I understand that this series is supposed to be high fantasy(“Lord of the Rings”) however for me personally I don’t feel a connection to the characters to want to follow them on the journey. I do think that if you like high fantasy and want to start a journey with unique characters you might want to check out the synopsis of the book and see if you would be interested especially if you are looking for LGBT characters in this type of story.
Overall I personally rate this book a 5 out of 10 because of how unique and unapologetically themselves the characters are. Happy reading dear 😊. Please like and share this review if you enjoyed it doing so helps me to get approved by publishers and authors for future books and helps others to find my reviews 💜.
