Dear reader I couldn’t sleep so I finished reading “Bloodwitch” book number 3 in the “Witchlands” series by Susan Dennard. I picked up this book in the Nook store on my tablet because I had to know what happens next with the characters. My personal review of the book is as follows:
I personally really love the main characters and the way that they stick to both what they personally believe in as individuals and their respective bonds to the people that they care about no matter the risk or personal cost to themselves. I also really loved the character development and growth for the original core characters plus “Owl”; some of the(for simplicity’s sake) “side characters” some of their individual storyline arcs I’m personally completely confused about.
I really related to “Vivian’s” feelings about being tired of having to act as everyone expects of her and I thought the wishing on fireflies was really sweet.
I was personally following along with the storyline for the most part(I have a hard time following storylines when the split off into multiple people and switch back and forth between different people which in my personal opinion this book does a lot of)
Until around the last few chapters of the middle of the book when first I was confused by how/why certain characters got where they were (in my personal opinion this author goes through characters transition from place to place very quickly especially when/if magic is involved in it) and why they were going there; it seemed to me personally like sometimes a character was moved into a scene(s) with another character just for them to be yelled at or fight with another character.
Then it felt like I was being moved to quickly between characters and my biggest problem was that the majority of(for lack of a better way of phrasing it) “action/fight” scenes felt like they were being made to fit into this book where I personally think that I would’ve been emotionally impacted by them more if I would’ve gotten more time to process them before being taken into the next one. Maybe splitting them up into another book or novella.
I’m still going to read the next book in the series whenever it’s released because the “loose ends” made me want to know what happens next. Overall I personally rate this book a 6 out of 10 because of how much personally enjoyed the characters. Happy reading dear reader 😊.
