Book Review: Shadow of the Fox: Julie Kagawa

Dear reader I just finished reading “Shadow of The Fox” book number one in the “Shadow of the Fox” series by Julie Kagawa. I picked up this book in the Nook store on my tablet because I enjoyed reading the author’s “Iron Fey” series and I wanted to see how I would like this series. My personal review of the book is as follows:

When I first started reading the book I almost DNF’d(Did Not Finish) it because of how much the beginning and first few chapters confused me, I put it down a few different times and read other books in between getting a few more pages into the story until I got to about the middle of the book and started to meet the(for lack of a better way of phrasing it) “band” of characters that the main characters pick up along the way I started to get pulled into the story and care what happens to them.

I do feel like the romantic undertones between the two characters felt a bit off to me personally due to how young the female main character read to me. I do feel like if you are a fan of stories with the “unlikely band of friends” plotline you might want to check out this book.

I personally feel like the ending and “twist”(it felt like a twist to me) felt a bit rushed and convenient plot wise and it took away from (in my personal opinion) the reveals and culmination of plot points that the story had been(in my personal opinion) hinting to/(for lack of a better way of phrasing it) “hyping” up this entire time. I also feel disappointed that a character(trying to avoid spoilers) didn’t really get to enjoy their *victory(I don’t know how to explain it without spoilers)* and was (in my personal opinion) only really useful to the overall arc of the storyline(at least for the arc of this book) in a very superficial way, which feels like a let down given how she was introduced.

I personally as a reader feel like I wasn’t able to fully appreciate and take in the culmination of those things before the “twist” happened and even though it was heavily implied that some of the plot points would be addressed in the next book in the series I don’t know if it will have the same feeling of emotional fulfillment at that point especially since there’s going to be time between now and when the next book is out.

I still want to know what happens next with the characters so I will be reading the next book in the series whenever it’s released. Overall I personally rate this book a 6 and a half out of 10. Happy reading dear reader 😊. Please like and share this review if you enjoyed it doing so helps me to get approved by publishers and authors for future 📚s and helps others to find my reviews 💜.
