Dear reader I couldn’t sleep so I finished reading “Crystal Blade” book #2 in the “Burning Glass” series by Kathryn Purdie. I picked up this book in soft-cover edition when I went to my local Barnes and Noble store(thanks to my dad for buying it for me) because I wanted to see what happens next with the characters as well as the situation within the world of the series it’s self(in terms of how the political upheaval was playing out). My personal review of the book is as follows:

I really enjoyed the(in my personal opinion) personal growth of the main character and how she dealt with the personal conflicts around how she feels about using her powers and trying to figure out how they play into her being the kind of person whom she wants to be and how she was trying to figure out her own personal code of conduct/ethics and how she will stay true to them or not within situations that she finds herself in especially if/when it involves using her powers or not.

In my personal opinion everything that I enjoyed from the first half of the book was thrown out with the first major plot twist near the end of book, which completely confused me personally in terms of how it fits with the other main characters(trying my hardest to avoid spoilers) and how it will affect the arc of the series as a whole.

Just as I was trying to understand what that first plot twist meant the 2nd plot twist at the very end of the book(for me personally) took all of the earlier joy of the book away(it’s really hard to explain why without giving away the whole ending of the book) to the point where I’m pretty much sure that I won’t be reading the final book in the series(I might change my mind in a few months from now but I have so many other books that I want to read that I highly doubt it).

Overall because of how much I liked the characters as a whole and because I find the world and premise of the book to be unique I am raiting this book a 4 and half out of 10.
