Book Review: Dividing Eden: Joelle Charbonneau

Dear reader I couldn’t sleep so I finished reading “Dividing Eden” book number one in the “Dividing Eden” doulogy by Joelle Charbonneau. I picked up this book in the Nook store on my tablet because I had heard a lot about it a few years back and it was on sale for $1.99 so I picked it up.

My personal review of the book is as follows:

I want to start this review off by saying that I know now that there is a prequel novella that is said to explains the backstory of the book however I picked up this book first and haven’t read it. Also I personally want to add a trigger warning for drug use (it is a fictionalized drug) and a main character who uses and goes through withdrawals for almost the entire book in case that’s an issue for anyone.

For me personally so much of this book and the reasons why characters act the way that they did made no sense to me at all. I personally feel that so much of the drama between the main characters felt so petty and was only really used to keep the storyline moving; for example almost every time the main characters(who are brother and sister and we are told over and over again about how they have been helping each other over the years) would try to work on what was happening to them/their family(trying to phrase things in a way that avoids spoilers) another character would try to get between them or they in my personal opinion would seem to change motivations/personality for a scene or two; I had more issues with the characters however since they are spoiler based I won’t talk about them here.

I personally kept reading because I kept thinking it would get better/I would figure out what was going on(who was messing with them/other main storyline stiff that the book kept hinting at that we as readers (in my personal opinion) never really got to see, I’m guessing that’s what book 2 will show) and towards the end I just wanted to find out how it ends.

I won’t be reading the final book in the trilogy because I don’t personally feel that it will get any better.

I am rating this book a 2 and half out 10 because I think that the characters could’ve been better in a different settings with more(in my personal opinion) realistic motivations/more complex characterizations. Happy reading dear ☺. Please like and share this review if you enjoyed it doing so helps me to get future books and helps others to find my reviews 💜.
