Book Review: Mistress of the Ritz: Melanie Benjamin

Dear reader I couldn’t sleep so I finished reading “Mistress of the Ritz” by Melanie Benjamin. I picked up this book in hardcover edition from my local Barnes and Noble(way before the covid-19 situation happened) because the synopsis of the book seemed interesting I personally have always been fascinated by glamour of the Ritz.

My personal review of the book is as follows:

I want to start this review off by saying that(in my personal opinion) if you want more of the glitz and glamour of the Ritz and the time period it’s self this book isn’t really focusedon that(it is a little bit in the beginning of the book).

It’s focused on the main characters and their marriage and all the good and bad that comes from/with it, the Ritz is a backdrop and for lack of a better way of phrasing it touch stone that gives the story a central location to focus on/always come back to after different scenes take place at other locations.

If you’re sensitive to situations around the Holocaust I personally would skip the last half of book. Also the end of the book was kind of intense for me personally(I’m not sure if it would’ve bothered me as much without the stress of the Covid-19 situation).

Overall I personally do feel like if you enjoy storylines featuring a(for lack of a better way of phrasing it) “case study” of a marriage and how it can affect the people within it for better and worse at times I recommend checking it out.

For me personally I rate this book a 5 out of 10. Happy reading dear reader 😊. Please like and share this review if you like it doing so helps me to get future books and helps others to find my reviews 💜.
