Dear reader I couldn’t sleep so I finished reading “Dove and Sword: A Novel of Joan of Arc” by Nancy Garden. I picked up this book in the Nook store on my tablet because it seemed interesting and it was on sale for $1.99. My personal review of the book is as follows:

I really enjoyed the characters, the main storyline(in general), writing style, and the pacing. I personally felt as though I was there in the world with the characters watching everything happen. I definitely felt for Jean and Gabrielle(I hope that I will have courage like theirs whenever I need it).

I personally don’t understand why the girl at the end of the book(especially if she’s a main character, and yes, dear reader I understand that this can’t apply to Joan, I am specifically speaking about Gabrielle in this case in terms of my gripe with this romantic plotline) never seems to “get the guy” as happens for the hero in most cases.

It could’ve been nice to see Gabrielle get her happy ending especially when it would’ve been with a man who could help her with her education and wanted her to pursue it whilst still being in love with her which is very rare given the time period of history its set within(and yes, dear reader I understand that it’s fictional however I still feel like it would’ve been nice to see).

Overall I personally think that if you like stories about Joan of Arc. I recommend checking out this book. Or if enjoy storylines featuring strong female characters set within the time period of Joan of Arc.
